I just wanted to blog about the project I completed this evening using my Cox Comb that I harvested on Monday.(check Monday's
blog) And since we have all seen chairs covered in artificial and real flowers in magazines for years...let's just call this one a Show-n-Tell.
I started with two Ice Cream Chairs (that's what grandma always called them) these belonged to Randy's mother. I thought I had enough Cox Comb to cover both. hehe
It took so much more than I thought it would. I also used Chicken Wire and wire cutters.
I placed the chicken wire over the seat area and trimmed away the excess using my wire cutters.(leaving an 1 1/2 " over hang) To secure the wire to the chair I bent the wire down and around the edge. Repeated the same process on the seat back area.
I placed the heads of the Cox Comb in each opening of the wire.
I found it easier to place them around the edge first and filling in the middle as I went along.
In order for the flowers to stay in place on the seat back, I laced the stems through two or three openings as shown. (Next year, when harvesting the Cox Comb Heads I will leave the stems longer)
After filling in all of the bottom and seat back areas, I added 2" inch ribbon. Placing bows at center top and at leg areas. The ribbon I choose is trimmed in gold. So I choose to accent the chair with two gold glittered birds and their nest.
This project was so fun...fast and easy!!
At this point I know you are wondering how long this chair will last....hmmmm.. I'm not sure. I'm hoping it will make it through the holidays. I plan on giving it to my parents as an early 49th Wedding Anniversary gift. My dad is the one who shared the Cox Comb seeds with me. And gave me the miracle grow so they would look like this!!
HAPPY 49TH ANNIVERSARY MOM AND DAD!
NOW COME AND GET YOUR CHAIR!
P.S.
oh..by..the..way..I'll need the chair back when the flowers are gone...hehe
